The family bantams - we had Marans, Pekins and some other unknown varieties, all bought from the local field auction at various times. They gave us eggs (and some chickens), lots of enjoyment and entertainment - until one of the terriers climbed over a roof and despatched all but two. One escaped and never returned (can you blame her), and the other one, a cockerel, eventually went to live next door to keep several hens company. He has a lot to crow about now.
It's been deemed too risky (cruel, even) to try and have any more.
